Hailed by The Straits Times for her “impressive voice”, Taiwanese-Singaporean Evangeline Ng is a promising young soprano “destined for great things.” This season, Evangeline will be featured as a Festival Team at the Cleveland Art Song Festival with her musical partner, Fumiyasu Kawase, before joining the prestigious Grant Park Music Festival as a Project Inclusion Fellow. In August, she will be the featured soloist in the 2022President Young Performer's Concert, singing Op. 27 by Richard Strauss with the illustrious Singapore Symphony Orchestra, before making her role debut as Adele in Die Fledermaus with Singapore Lyric Opera at the world-renowned Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.
She is most recently the First Prize - Olly Kukepuu Award Winner in the New York Young Performers Prize Competition 2021, as well as the Second Prize Winner at the Classical Singer Competition 2022. Other accolades include winning the First Prize at the inaugural Singapore Lyric Opera ASEAN Vocal Competition (Open Category), Gold Award at the 4th Asia Arts Festival, 1st Runner-Up at the NAFA Vocal Competition, a semi-finalist in the Premiere Opera International Vocal Competition2018, the Third Prize at the 2nd ASEAN Vocal Competition in the Professional Category, where she was the youngest participant as well as the only Singaporean who placed. She was also a winner at the Riverside Opera Company Auditions 2020, and was featured as one of the winners of the DictionBuddy Concert Series - French.
Evangeline is an alumna of the Houston Grand Opera Young Artist Vocal Academy 2021. She was scheduled to debut Pamina(Die Zauberflöte) with Singapore Lyric Opera at the Esplanade Theatre, but the production was cancelled due to COVID-19.
She made her professional operatic debut with the Orchestra of Music Makers in Hansel and Gretel (Humperdinck) as the Sandman in June 2017, and subsequently performed in L’incoronazione di Poppea (New Opera Singapore) as Damigella. Recent performances include the role of Pamina with Music On Site, scenes of Governess (Turn of the Screw) and Poppea (The Coronation of Poppea) at the Manhattan School of Music, role debut as Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) with the Chicago Summer Opera, as well as a soloist appearance in Singapore Lyric Opera's Gala Concert 2019, accompanied by the SLO Orchestra and Chorus. Other roles/scenes include: Manon (Manon), Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) , Micaëla (Carmen), Eurydice (Orphée aux enfers), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito) and Adina (L'elisir d'amore). Her highly acclaimed performance in the 'Opera Under the Arch' series also led her to being featured on America's National Television Series: The Inside Edition. During her time at MSM, she was also part of the Singers' and Pianists' Seminar, and worked closely with Warren Jones. In the summer of 2018, she also attended Scuola di Belcanto, a selective program directed by Matthew Rose in the small town of Urbania, Italy where she studied Italian Language at Centro Studi Italiani.
Evangeline began pursuing singing at the age of 16, and her teachers include Akiko Otao and Jessica Chen. She is an alumna of the Singapore Repertory Theatre Young Company, where she was trained in acting, as well as the Singapore Dance Academy where she trained in ballet. She appeared in productions by Singapore Repertory Theatre, as well as Singapore Lyric Opera, New Opera Singapore, Orchestra of the Music Makers, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and NAFA Orchestra. A recent graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, she is currently based in New York City, and studies with Joan Patenaude-Yarnell. Evangeline had been kindly sponsored by The Trailblazer Foundation.
Evangeline's passion and love for music also led her to joining the faculties at Aurora Music Academy as well as Henderson Academy of Music. She enjoys educating the next generation of budding young musicians, and advocating the love of her art.
Other than performing and teaching, Evangeline is the co-owner of TEAVVA - an opera-themed bubble tea store on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. She is also a photographer and specializes in taking head shots, as well as covering for events/recitals.
